I am pleased to announce I am a recipient of the CERF+ Get Ready Grant!
With this grant I was able to upgrade my studio safety. As a potter, there are always concerns about silica dust. When clay dries it can release silica dust in the air, especially when there are trimmings or pieces of clay on the floor that get walked on, glaze dust, and other dust that dries on tables and surfaces.
I was able to get a HEPA vacuum to address clean floors and surfaces and also a HEPA air filter for my studio that can remove silica dust in the air.
The grant funds allowed me the purchase of the Austin Air HealthMate Jr. which removes fine particles in a space of about 700 sq ft, which is perfectly suited for my small studio space. The rest of the funds were used to purchase the Nilfisk Aero Wet/Dry HEPA Cannister Vacuum.
The difference in my studio was notable right away! I was able to vacuum up trimmings on a daily basis and there is no longer a fine dust settling on the surfaces in my studio. I don't have running water in my studio, so using the vacuum was the perfect choice compared to using a mop. I am able to clean dust and clay from nooks and crannies, as well as vacuum out my kiln.
